I was snow inner-tubing on January 2007 in Whitewater, WI when I acquired my spinal cord injury. I went down the snow hill and my tube flipped end-over-end causing my C-5 vertebrae to burst into five pieces and C-1 vertebrae to fracture. My spinal cord injury left me paralyzed from the chest down with no triceps or finger function. I missed one semester of college and eventually graduated from UW-Whitewater with a Bachelors degree in Social Work. I am currently in graduate school working on my Masters degree in Social Work.
Before my injury, I was training for marathons and iron man competitions. Wheelchair rugby has helped fill that emptiness of competitive sports post spinal cord. Wheelchair rugby is a team sport and gives me an opportunity to meet and compete with athletes dealing with similar paralysis.
