I was in the Bahamas back in 2004 for my honeymoon. Next day after arrival, i decided to dive in the beach before sundown. Instead of finding a deeper end, i came across a shallow area and ended up breaking my C6 vertebrae (neck). One of the best things that could have been introduced to me after the injury was wheelchair rugby. Rugby in the beginning was a good way to escape from the world and all of my problems.
It was also a good way to be active and stay in shape. Because of rugby, i was able to keep my blood pressure up and help me be more active in life. I also met people who i can relate to in regards to my injury and was able to share information to have an easier lifestyle. It also helped me see that it’s not the end of the world for a quadriplegic; you CAN move on and have an independent lifestyle.
