I was hurt on may 19 of 2008 running into a wall full speed on an indoor soccer field playing flag football. I fractured C1, C6, and C7 and dislocated C6 underneath C7 pinching my spinal cord. I am an incomplete C8 quadriplegic. I have played sports my entire life so rugby is a natural fit for my active life style. I am able to be competitive with others that have had similar experiences to me. It has also helped me to become more independent by being pushed by my teammates and seeing how they go about their daily lives.

Not to mention, the obvious benefits of staying fit. The conditioning in rugby has helped me to get around independently pushing my chair without struggling. It’s amazing to me that you will look at a rugby player whom has been in a wheelchair for over 20 years and looks great because they are in such good shape. At the same point, you will see someone whom has been in a chair for a few years and is not doing so well. I feel very blessed to be involved with such a great sport.
